Education & Training: John received his Master of Arts in Counseling in 1990 and Master of Divinity in 1995 from Oral Roberts University. He received his Chaplain Residency (Clinical Pastoral Education) at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas in 1997. John is licensed as a LPC in the state of Texas. He obtained his certification as a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT) in 2011 through the International Institute of Addiction Trauma Professionals (IITAP) and he became a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) in 2017 through the INternational Association of Trauma Professionals (IATP).
Background and Experience: John has many years of experience working in both an inpatient and outpatient setting, primarily focusing on adults experiencing issues related to addictive disorders. He describes his therapy style as client-centered and insight-oriented, primarily using cognitive behavioral therapy.
Special Interests & Services: Before working at Meier Clinics, John worked for over 12 years as a supervisor/counselor at Parkland Hospital in the adult alcohol and drug program. John provided services such as screenings, crisis intervention, short-term counseling, case management, referrals, family counseling, education services, and consultations. John is actively involved in the 12-step community.
